King Fahd’s widow wants support continued

The widow of Saudi’s King Fahd is continuing her bid for financial support although they have been estranged for 10 years.

Janan Harb, 58, who has lived in London since her husband suffered a massive stroke in 1995 told The Times of London she had told her lawyer to continue with the legal process.

“I have to talk to my lawyer and we are meeting with Islamic lawyers, but of course, as a wife, I have my rights,” she said.

She married King Fahd in 1969, but issued a writ seeking support last year after she allegedly failed to receive maintenance payments for many years.

Indian president condoles King Fahd’s death

President A P J Abdul Kalam, today led the nation in condoling the demise of King of Saudi Arabia King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud.

In his condolence message to the new King of Saudi Arabia King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the President said “in the passing away of King Fahd, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has lost a leader and the world an elder statesman.

“The wisdom and vision of King Fahd shaped the development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a stable, prosperous and modern nation stake,” the message said.

UN Security Council mourns death of late King Fahd

The UN Security Council mourned on Tuesday the death of Saudi Arabian King Fahd Bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.

In a statement read out by Ambassador Kenzo Oshima of Japan, which holds the Presidency of the 15-nation body for the month of August, the Council expressed its heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Saudi Arabia, following King Fahd’s death over the weekend.

King Fahd “devoted himself wholeheartedly both to the service of his country and to the promotion of peace and understanding in his region and internationally,” Oshima said.

Turkmenistan Sends Message of Condolence to Saudi Arabia

President Saparmurat Niyazov has sent a message of condolence to Saudi Arabia on the sad demise of King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz.

In a message to the new-King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Niyazov said, “In this hour of grief, I wish you and brotherly people of Saudi Arabia courage and patience to bear this irreparable loss.”

Saudi Arabia and Turkmenistan have close friendly relations and Saudi public and private sector is participating in a number of development projects in Turkmenistan.

Indian Union Power Minister P M Sayeed on Tuesday represented India at the funeral of Saudi King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz here along with dignitaries from all over the world.

The minister, who led a high-level official delegation at the funeral, also conveyed condolences of President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the new Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud.

India has said that in King Fahd’s death, Saudi Arabia has lost a leader and the world an elder statesman.

The achievements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under his leadership stand testimony to his vision, an official statement in New Delhi said.

Early life and development

Fahd was a son of King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Saud, the first monarch and founder of modern Saudi Arabia. At the time of his birth, Fahd’s father was completing the consolidation of the House of Saud’s power on the Arabian Peninsula and the founding of Saudi Arabia.

At the age of nine in 1932, Fahd watched as his father officially founded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by signing the Treaty of Jedda.

King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz (1923 - 2005)

King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud (born in Riyadh, probably in 1923; died on August 1, 2005) was until his death the king and prime minister of Saudi Arabia and leader of the House of Saud. In 1995 Fahd suffered a major stroke, possibly as a complication of obesity, and had been unable to perform his official duties. His half-brother, Crown Prince Abdullah, served as de facto regent of the kingdom.
